Makeup: Urban Decay Stay Naked Foundation

Today we’re going to talk about foundation! I’m a big advocate of letting skin breath, and making my everyday makeup routine as natural and effortless as possible (even though we all know minimal makeup is everything but minimal).

I’ve always struggle with finding a good foundation, that doesn’t look cakey, melted or oily after a few hours of wear.

Last year after returning from our wedding in Mexico and mini Miami honeymoon, I received an invitation from the Swiss Urban Decay team, to take part of the new Stay Naked foundation launch in Switzerland. I’ve always liked Urban Decay makeup, so I accepted right away! Yet, I was very (very) nervous to participate in an actual shooting, not knowing what to do in front of a professional photographer, and of course not even knowing what type of makeup I was going to be wearing.

I was perfectly color matched by Melanie, super talented makeup artist and counter manager for Urban Decay in Lausanne. She created a super deep brown eye look and matching brown lips. My shade is 40 NN, which means I have a neutral master tone and undertone, this foundation is designed with nine shade intensities, three master tones, and seven undertones.

The idea behind this look, was to create something nude & neutral. Looking back at the pictures, I feel there’s a vintage Selena vibes, I ended up loving the makeup and stayed with it for the whole day after the shooting!

The final look

Let’s get into the foundation details and review…

This formula was designed to be weightless, breathable and flexible with a second-skin feel. It does feel super light and it never feels heavy on my skin, I’ve been using it for a whole year and it’s the only foundation I own, so I’ve been able to test it under all circumstances and types of weather.

Coverage can be customize since it’s a buildable formula. I use half a pump when I want a super light coverage just to even out the look of my skin (perfect for super hot summer days). One pump for a medium coverage (my ideal everyday dose). For a night look, I might just apply a bit more in certain areas if needed. I love to have options and been able to achieve different results with the same product.

Something that I really appreciate about this foundation is the lasting powder, I love the look of my skin as soon as I apply it, but the most important is to be able to keep this look the whole day without having to worry about retouching my makeup after my lunch break, or wonder how my skin looks during the day, and desperately look for a mirror to confirm it. When I’m wearing this foundation I feel confident, knowing that what I applied in the morning looks good throughout the day. One of the reasons I choose to use foundation, is because I know my skin will look better, is it’s not the case, why would I bother to cover it on the first time?

I love to apply this foundation with a makeup sponge, my favorite is from Real Techniques. Application feels super smooth and everything gets blended in quite quickly. I like to mist my sponge with a few spritz of Urban Decay All Nighter setting spray, to make sure I really get the best long lasting effect.

I also need to mention that I wear this foundation paired with Urban Decay All Nighter primer and setting spray, I won’t get into details about them, because I’m preparing a whole separate post to review this range. Anyhow, I really suggest to use a primer and setting spray with any type of foundation you decide to use, these two steps will really help your makeup look better.

I recommend this foundation to everyone who’s looking for a lightweight and long lasting makeup; for anyone with normal/combination to oily skin type, tired of makeup looking melted or oily; and specially for those like me, who usually don’t believe in foundations. If you have dry skin, you can still use this foundation, but you really need to make sure your skin is super hydrated and prepared to hold such a long lasting foundation, carrying a hydrating spray with you might be a good idea.

I never tried any other Urban Decay foundation, so I can’t really compare this foundation with anything from their range. I was previously using Armani Luminous Silk foundation, which is favorite of many bloggers, but personally it got completely forgotten and ditched away, since the lasting power is not even near, and I remember I used to get an oily t-zone while using Armani’s foundation.

The shade range is huge, it consist of 50 different colors, so getting your perfect color match shouldn’t be that hard!

It was an amazing discovery thanks to the Swiss Urban Decay team and the only regret I have, is that I didn’t know about this foundation before my wedding! If I had known about it before, I would definitely have used it! While wearing this foundation I’ve gotten a lot of compliments on how my complexion looks super even and yet natural (one lady even said “doll skin” I almost hugged her). I’m almost done with my first bottle and I’m pretty sure I’ll be getting a second one very soon!

The PR simples I got to try after the shooting

Stay tune for the next blog post, where I’ll be sharing more about Urban Decay All Nighter collection.
